What to Look For in Best Meat Grinder For Kitchenaid

When choosing a manual meat grinder, there are certain qualities that I look for before adding them to the cart. I might not find them all, but as long as I find most of the qualities in the item, I won’t hesitate to buy it. Here’s what I look for:

  • Durability

Check the meat grinder for its craftsmanship. A good one must be sturdy and stable when clamped on the kitchen table. It must also be rust-proof that’s why I highly recommend stainless steel because it won’t discolor over time and it’s so easy to clean. Some of the brands that I review here are made of hard plastic which is considerably durable, but their blades are really made of stainless steel. You also have to check the blades if they are really sharp because you can’t have good ground meat with a lousy blade.

  • Value for money

Take note that I did not use the word cheap. Getting a cheap but crappy product is not getting good value for your money. What you’re looking for is to get a decent product at a reasonable price but not necessarily cheap. On the flip side, just because the product is expensive doesn’t mean it’s also good. If you can get a grinder with some decent features for less, that is what value for money is about.

  • Quality of ground meat

What you’re looking for here is a manual meat grinder that delivers high-quality ground meat output. The resulting meat texture must be uniformly fine without a lot of huge lumps. While the blade is the primary part responsible for producing well-textured ground, you have to remember that with manual grinders, stability also contributes to the quality of output.

  • Ease of use

Bear in mind that you will be manually turning the pedal of the grinder, so what you’re looking for here is ergonomic design. You don’t want to suffer muscle pain after just a batch of grinding. Turning the crank handle must be smooth with minimal effort. You also have to consider how easy it is to disassemble and clean. Given the compact nature of manual grinders, good brands are usually the ones that can pull this off.

  • Warranty

A brand that is confident with their product wouldn’t mind covering it with warranty. While most of them will offer a minimum duration of a year, it would be better if you can get more than that. Some brands offer extended warranty for the heavily used parts like the cutting plates and the hopper. Features like this are really useful especially if you experience malfunctions after you bought the item.

  • Accessories

There are some manual meat grinders that provide accessories that extend the capabilities of an otherwise simple tool. These accessories include cutting knife, stuffing tube for sausage, and cutting plate. This is generally a good thing especially if it doesn’t make the item more expensive because you get more for your money than just a plain meat grinder.

  • Flexibility

It’s would really be a good thing if your manual meat grinder can grind more than just meat, but fats, soft bones, and tendons including vegetables in all different volumes as well.

Final Thoughts

If the price is really an issue to you, you can take the Bellemain Manual Meat Grinder or the Gideon Hand Crank Manual Meat Grinder because both are unbelievably cheap. While it does one job and one job only, it does it so well you wouldn’t mind at all. They bought lightweight making it easy to mount and dismount and its ergonomic design ensures that it doesn’t take too much space wherever you keep them. Since its body is made of hard plastic, it can last for a longer time but don’t expect it to outlive any of the stainless meat grinders.

Now for the winner in this review, I believe it is the New Rand Stainless Steel #10 Manual Meat Grinder/Sausage Stuffer and Tubes 304 for the simple reason that it is the cheapest between the three stainless steel grinders. It functions the same as the LEM Products #10 Stainless Steel Clamp-on Hand Grinder but it steel cheaper and that seals the deal for me.

You have to bear in mind that we are looking for the best value for our money and if I’m made to choose between two equally capable tools with one being cheaper, the cheaper wins for me. While the TSM Products #22 Stainless Steel Meat Grinder is a really capable grinder, its price is a bit prohibitive and there is none that it can do that the other two can’t. I just can’t pick it.
